A hernia can occur at any age and may involve severe complications such as bowel obstruction or necrosis. Of all the different types of hernia, such as inguinal, femoral, umbilical, incisional, and perineal, the most common type in males is inguinal hernia.

Hernia do not improve on their own, and surgery is the only treatment method. Most hernias today are treated via minimally invasive surgery, with some patients allowed to be discharged on the same day.

The Hospital’s Hernia Clinic is led by an experienced team of surgeons and healthcare professionals, who, supported by advanced facilities and equipment, work together to provide quality hernia treatment and care to patients through one-stop examination, diagnosis, and treatment services.
Hernias are generally treated through two surgical methods: open hernia repair surgery and laparoscopic hernia repair. Doctors will recommend the most appropriate treatment to patients depending on their condition.
Special minimally invasive inguinal hernia repair packages are on offer for public hospital patients.

Beginning October 1, 2021, for all special clinic bookings, the Hospital will charge the patients a “facility fee” of
HK$500 per 30 minutes session for regular consultation and a HK$1,500 “facility charge – procedure” for
consultation / treatment requiring special equipment.
