Early Stages of Stomach Cancer: Symptoms You Shouldn't Ignore!

– The information was presented by Dr. Yang Pei Cheung, George

Stomach cancer is a common type of cancer, ranking fourth in cancer mortality rates in Hong Kong. There are many factors that contribute to stomach cancer, one of which is the infection by Helicobacter pylori. In urban areas today, up to 50% of the population may carry this bacterium, meaning that one in every two people is affected, highlighting its prevalence. If Helicobacter pylori is detected in the stomach, it can be eradicated through antibiotics or gastric medication.

In the early stages, stomach cancer often shows no obvious symptoms. As the tumor grows, common upper gastrointestinal symptoms may appear, but these can easily be overlooked. By the time clear symptoms manifest, the cancer is often already at stage three or four.

Understanding the causes, symptoms, tests, and treatment options for stomach cancer is crucial for early detection and effective treatment.
